Lovebugs...

On our recent trip to Florida our lovely Travelin' Abode got attacked by Lovebugs...so I decided to learn exactly what their mission was in this world -&- here is what I found out!?!

Lovebugs are small black flies with a red thorax that have been invading our lives in April-May and August-September. They are considered a nuisance mainly because they congregate in large numbers along highways and splatter on windshields and grills of our cars.

Damage: Car's windshields become covered with the fatty remains that can become thick enough to obscure vision. The flies can also clog radiators and cause our cars to overheat. The fatty tissue can pit our car's finish if not removed within a few days. A word of caution, do not paint your house now, lovebugs can mar freshly painted surfaces.

Feeding: Adult lovebugs are harmless - they do not sting or bite. They feed on the nectar of various plants, especially sweet clover, Brazilian pepper and goldenrod.

Frequency of flights: Two flights of lovebugs occur each year in Central Florida. The spring flight occurs during late April and May. A second flight occurs in fall around late August and September and flight periods generally last 4-5 weeks. Flights are usually restricted to daylight hours and temperatures above 68 degrees F. Mating takes place almost immediately after emergence of the females. Adult females live only 2 to 3 days.

Control: There are several effective insecticides available for lovebug control, but spraying can be impractical because infestations occur over such a vast area and for a short period of time. You can control lovebugs in confined areas like porches and around your home with aerosol sprays available for other household insects. Predators have substantially reduced the population of lovebugs in Central Florida during the past several years. Lovebug larvae populations are extremely high in pasture areas, making an ideal environment for certain bird predators like robins and quails. Armadillos are thought to be predators as well, but scientific data has yet to back this up. Certain beetle larvae, earwigs and centipedes have been found to be natural predators of lovebug larvae in the soil.

Lovebugs and your car: There are several things a motorist can do to lessen the lovebug nuisance. First, traveling at night can reduce the incidence of lovebugs since they are active only in the day, usually after 10 a.m. Also traveling at a lower speed will reduce the number of bugs splattered on your car. There are many types of screens available that can be placed on the front grill of your car to protect the finish and prevent the radiator from becoming clogged. If a large screen can't be used on the front of the car, a smaller screen can be put behind the grill but in front of the radiator.

Splattered lovebugs should be washed off the car as soon as possible. Cars that have been waxed recently are more protected from damage by lovebug residue. Soaking the area with water for several minutes will aid in removal too. When lovebugs are numerous, or you know you will be traveling at the peak times, you can spread a light film of baby oil or use an aerosol oil spray over the front of the hood, above the windshield, and the grill and bumper. This practice will make lovebug removal easier.

Today I am thankful that our company allows us to wash the Travelin' Abode for free 2 times a month!?!

Montana Bear Tragedy

Montana Bear Tragedy

This is a very sad story about a bear... Everybody should heed the warnings not to feed wildlife because they become dependent and don't forage for themselves any longer!?!
It is such a tragedy to see what has been done to our country's wildlife.
The photo below captures a disturbing trend that is beginning to affect U.S.
wildlife!?!

Animals that formerly were self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democrat Party!?!
They have apparently learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide for their care -&- sustenance!?!
This photo is of a black bear in Montana turned Democrat!?!
He's nicknamed Bearack Obearma!?!
It is believed that he has become a campground organizer!?!

Today I am thankful I don't have the same "issues" the bear does!?!

Rookie Blue

When this show first premiered on ABC last season I was looking for a new show to get hooked on...-&-...boy did I get hooked quick...I fell fast for this show...watch an episode of it -&- I bet you will to!?!

Catch it tonight on ABC or later on ABC.COM or HULU.COM

Cast:
Missy Peregrym as Andy McNally
Enuka Okuma as Traci Nash
Travis Milne as Chris Diaz
Charlotte Sullivan as Gail Peck
Noam Jenkins as Detective Jerry Barber
Melanie Nicholls-King as Noelle Williams
Ben Bass as Sam Swarek
Gregory Smith as Dov Epstein
Eric Johnson as Detective Luke Callaghan
Matt Gordon as Oliver Shaw
Lyriq Bent as Frank Best

"It is what a cop show should be. It is how I imagined cops would like, somewhat lazy but they still have heart. But the rookie cops try cause they have something to prove and the experienced cops still try but not as hard. It's good, a nice refreshing change from 'CSI' or 'Law and Order'. It's like the show 'Cops' meets 'Grey's Anatomy' and together had a baby. Just try it you'll be put in the eyes of a working cop for 45 minutes and watch them hassle with criminals and their love triangles."

Today I am thankful for TV online -&- Unlimited Data to watch it with!?!

Jason's Law

Sept 8th is national call in day for Jason's Law For Safe Truck Parking creates safer highways for EVERYONE!! Rested drivers= safer drivers=safer highways!?!

I've posted on Facebook several times about Jason's Law -&- never thought to post about it here -but- today that is going to change!?! Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with Jason's Law...something that is VERY important to me!?!

The Current Transportation Bill expires the end of September,
Adding Jason's law to the new bill will offer more safe truck parking for professional drivers and will open the door to an awareness that the general public has not been enlightened to.

THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ALL!
Tired drivers who can not rest for the night can be a safety concern for all.
...
Transportation Committees 202-225-9446

Jason's Law, HR 1803,is named after slain truck driver Jason Rivenburg, who
was murdered as he parked to rest for the evening in an abandoned gas station before his morning delivery.

It was introduced into Congress by Paul Tonko- D- New York
THIS IS A NON PARTISAN BILL!!!

His widow, Hope Rivenburg, has been an inspiration to us all as she continues to fight for more safe truck parking for the professional truck driver....so that no other family has to endure the pain and loss that she has experienced.

Truck Parking has been an issue for professional driver for over 20 years now. To make matters worse, rest areas are closing because of lack of state funds, and drivers are finding it more and more difficult to take their federally mandated rest.

The result is a huge safety risk, not only for drivers, but for the general public, who is now sharing the roads with fatigued drivers who can not find adequate safe truck parking.

The FMCSA is calling for all kinds of new regulations and safety proposals, however, the most obvious of all....drivers being able to park and rest safely, has been ignored.

The need for safe parking for our truck drivers is critical. Call the Transportation Committee at (202) 225- 9446 to let them know you want Jason's law HR 1803 included in the TRANSPORTATION BILL!

For more...check out the website HERE!?!

Today I am thankful for the people working to help get Jason's Law passed!?!
